I wonder...

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you were someone else?

Wondering what it would be like to be someone else is how I fell asleep every night as a kid.  I would be He-Man or Thunder Cat or G.I. Joe or Conan the Barbarian or another favorite The Beast Master.

Wondering and imagining and pretending were so much fun as a kid, and I still do it today.

Where would we be without it?

Where would you be without it?

Well, going into the long weekend I didn't intend on talking about cartoons or '80s movies that were cool to a young kid, but when it comes to our health, imagination is a powerful tool.

Our imagination creates good and bad images of the past, present and future, and though it is unavoidable we can control it.

We can use our imagination for good, like Superman :)

We can use it for good all day long, every day, even when our day doesn't seem to be going the way we want it to go...

We are all on a journey.  Its a journey from Point A to Point B.  We think it is a physical journey (travel, aging bodies, specific destinations), but it is enormously a mental journey too.

We don't lose weight and then gain it back or get our backs feeling better and then start hurting again because of physical challenges.  We are facing challenges of the imagination.  Not that you are imagining your pain or the scale but let me try and explain with a couple of examples.

We starting eating super duper healthy (physical), but we tell ourselves it sucks, its torture, its not as good as the unhealthy stuff (imagination).  So it doesn't last...

We do our home exercises (physical), but we tell ourselves its work and that work sucks and its annoying and takes too much time (imagination).  So it doesn't last...

Making sense now?

I'll leave you with this:

Most of us can easily imagine ourselves healthier, leaner, stronger, or pain free.  Can YOU imagine yourself enjoying the journey to get there?

We are all on a journey.

Can you imagine enjoying all of it?  Even the stuff that gets you where you really want to be.

Blessings,
Dr Asa
